Buy a Wave Skimboard for Boat Waves and Wakesurf Sessions

Buying a wave skimboard pays off the moment you ride regularly behind a wakeboat with a surf system. Skimstyle boards are shorter, thinner and spin more freely than classic surfers. On a cleanly pumped boat wave, 8 to 12 km/h of boat speed is often enough for the wave to carry you without a line.

Compared to the Surfstyle variant, a skimboard reacts faster to weight shifts. That makes spins, 360s and big spins much more accessible. If you prefer flow and longer lines, ride a Wakesurfer Surfer, if you want both, grab a Wakesurfer Hybrid with a middle-ground shape.

Pair your skimboard with a short surf rope of around 6 meters and a grippy handle. For the wave behind the boat you don't need bindings, your stance stays free. We often send short clips on top so you see the difference between two models on the water directly, instead of just comparing specs.

A Skimboard That Matches Your Boat Wave and Skill Level

Choosing a skimboard that matches your boat wave and skill level comes down to three factors, volume, length and rocker. Light riders under 70 kg often run 4'2" to 4'6" with moderate volume. Heavier riders from 85 kg up tend to grab 4'8" to 5'0" with more float, so the board sits cleanly in the pocket of the wave.

The wave itself plays a role too. A smaller boat running 800 lb of ballast forms a short, tight wave, where a nimble Skimstyle board fits perfectly. Larger surf boats with 1500 to 2500 lb of ballast push a longer, stronger pocket, and that's where higher-volume Wakesurfer Skimmer shapes or Hybrid models come into play.

For skill level, what matters is how confidently you stand on water. Beginners benefit from a bit more volume and a wider stance platform, while advanced riders go for narrower skimboards with a more aggressive rocker.
